Bodybuilding History 1931-1949

Bodybuilding era after 1930 are considered to be very good especially from 1940 to 1970 is frequently called as the “Golden Age”. The casting of some bodybuilders in movies increased the popularity of bodybuilding in the world.

Due to the increase in fame of bodybuilding, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) added a bodybuilding contest to their existing weightlifting competition in 1939 and the winner of this type of competition was declared as a named "America's Best Built Man".  The overall winner of this 1940 competition was John Grimek.

In 1949, the winner of Mr America contest was Alan Stephan.

Bodybuilding History 1906-1930

Bodybuilding is the sport of increasing muscle fibers through physical exercise, training and the combination of specific caloric eating or drinking, have a rest on time. A man or a woman who is involved in this type of activity is called bodybuilder.

Al Treloar was declared “The Most Perfectly Developed Man in the World” in the first American bodybuilding competition.  Thomas Edison was a film maker and made a film of Al Treloar’s posing routine. Before the beginning of 20th century, Bernarr Macfadden and Charles Atlas, continuous worked to promote bodybuilding from corner to corner of the world.

Bodybuilding History 1880-1905

Bodybuilding sports was promoted by Eugen Sandow from Prussia in the late 19th century. Eugen Sandow is now usually known as “The Father of Modern Bodybuilding”. He is the man of introducing of newly bodybuilding. For the growth of bodybuilding he made his first performance on the London stage in 1889, with his performance the audiences was excited seeing a well developed body physique. For the publicity of bodybuilding and earned money Sandow want a platform. For this he had made a contract with Florenz Ziegfeld for a stage show and became so victorious at it. He became a celebrity and was among the first to market products branded with his name alone.

Sandow was a strong supporter of “the Grecian Ideal”. This is how Sandow built his own physique and in the early years, men were judged by how closely they matched these “ideal” scopes.


The first bodybuilding competition was organized by Sandow in London, United Kingdom on 14, September 1901 and was played a role judge. The winner of the contest was William L. Murray of Nottingham, from England.

The first comprehensive bodybuilding competition in America took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 16, January 1904. The winner was Al Treloar.

Bodybuilding Introduction

Bodybuilding is the art of showing the muscles of the physical body. A man or a woman  who is involved in this type of activity is called bodybuilder. In the contest bodybuilders display their physiques to a panel of judges, who assign points based on their artistic shape of the body appearance.


Bodybuilders prepare themselves for contest by boost the size of a muscle by bodybuilding techniques, bodybuilding exercises  and with techniques steroids. Bodybuilders need proper training and diet to make themselves fit for bodybuilding contests.


The world most famous bodybuilders consist of Charles Atlas, Reg Park, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Reeves, Mike Mentzer, Lou Ferrigno, Serge Nubret, Larry Scott, Ronnie Coleman, and Jay Cutler. Currently, the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB) professional bodybuilder Phil Heath from the United States holds the title of Mr. Olympia 2011.
